Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Students who believe they already have some of the competencies in the course they wish to study may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). An essential requirement of RPL is proof of competency. This may involve providing copies of students resume and/or work performance appraisals, job position descriptions, and any certificates of in-house or formal training. Students may be asked for contact details of people who can vouch for your skill level: supervisors from current or previous workplaces, clients, or some character references from the community. Examples of other useful records include letters from employers and records of your professional development sessions.

If you have undertaken study, or have work experience (including volunteering) in your area of study interest, you may receive credits toward that qualification at RGIT Australia. In some cases, your prior experience may entitle you to a full qualification from RGIT Australia without further study.

For more information, see RGIT Australia’s Recognition of Prior Learning Policy and Procedure.

Why apply for RPL?

  • Gain credit for study you have previously completed
  • Reduce the amount of time it takes to complete a qualification
  • Have one or more units of competence entered on your student record immediately and use that in your workplace
  • Have formal acknowledgement of the knowledge and skills you have gained through previous work experience
