RGIT Stage 4, Certificate IV Patisserie students and their Trainer, Debra, visited 15 patisseries, chocolate and cake shops in Melbourne’s CBD and Melbourne's south as part of an excursion for their unit “Produced yeast based products” on Friday, 10 November 2017. Students had a great time discussing what each shop offered, the visual appearance of the pastries and the shops themselves, and of course a little taste here and there of Melbourne's finest pastries.
Students were treated to chocolate croissants at Agathé Patisserie to demonstrate the characteristics, texture, taste, colour and mouth feel of well-made pastry. Different equipment and tools with which students may not have been familiar were shown at Chef Hat in South Melbourne, and students looked at not so common food items in the industry at The Essential Ingredient in South Yarra. Students also visited Bibelot in South Melbourne, where students got to try a tasting plate that had 9 different sweet items on it. Fifteen wonderful patisseries were visited, including Laurent, Koko Black, Agathé Patisserie Petite, The Little Royal, Little Cupcake, Brioche by Philip, Le Petit Gateau, T by LuxBite, 5 & Dime Bagel, Bibelot, Chez Dre Patisserie, Let Them Eat Cake, South Melbourne market, Alypic Chocolate and Agathé Patisserie.
